"May 23, 2007 – While the rate of entrepreneurial activity has remained remarkably consistent over the past decade with nearly 465,000 people creating new businesses on average each month, subtle year-to-year shifts in the gender, demographic, geographic and ethnic make-up are changing the public face of the American entrepreneur. This is according to a national assessment of entrepreneurial activity by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation."
(465,000)*(12)
You wrote this: 465,000 people creating new businesses on average each month Does it mean that there are around half million people create new businesses monthly?
If this number is monthly, then there are around 5.58 Million people make new startups/businesses yearly?
Is there any proof that these numbers are real ?
I'm definitely open to an alternate figure -- I just feel Kaufman is reputable to trust.
To answer your question, half a million yearly (465,000)*(12)=5,580,000
First, they're looking at businesses of all types, not just the scalable, tech-oriented businesses that we typically consider startups. The states with the most entrepreneurial activity, by their metric, were "Montana, Mississippi, Georgia, Oklahoma and Maine". Pretty clear we're not dealing with startups then.
Second, they are counting (or attempting to, anyway) all businesses, incorporated or unincorporated. Everything from your neighbor's babysitter to Bechtolsheim's latest, I guess.
So, pretty much worthless. But it did get our attention.
