I need to buckle down and write an RSS reader. Or find one that fits my use case.
Hopefully one that's not based on Google Reader; they're few and far between.

I've no idea. I can't find a single decent Mac / iOS client that's not based on Google Reader.
Oh for sure. I probably should write a blog post that lists all of those tricks aimed at selective news sourcing VS constant watching in fear that you miss something.
