Why do you think trucking industry* in its current configuration is the most optimal configuration that can ever exist and it needs to be frozen for posterity?
*It is never about the trucking industry, but the mega businesses that use trucking. They know how to do logistics, which is how to do multi-modal transportation (ship, train, trucks, last mile delivery). Amazon built new warehouses everywhere in US. When the pricing reflects reality, warehouses + multi-modal transportation will reconfigure.
Its just like saying Layer-1 of networking in 1970s (1Mbps Ethernet? Token ring?) is the perfect way to transport packets, we should freeze it in time and never think of anything better. Layer 1 in the real world is transportation.
