I'm right there with you

Everyone I know thinks I'm weird when I get mad that a restaurant doesn't have a physical menu. I don't want to scan a QR code and scroll a menu on my phone, it's a worse experience than reading a paper menu in every single way

Here in India, some restaurants now make you send a WhatsApp message to the restaurant to get their menu. Very annoying.

I could never eat there. I do not have a WhatsApp and I am never going to do that just to eat somewhere

Unfortunately in many countries you can't participate in society without WhatsApp. Where I'm at in South America, not having a WhatsApp is about equivalent to not having a phone number at all in the U.S.

I’d lean into the adjacent technology that allows me to find another place to eat.

I've reached the point where I just refuse to do it. If the restaurant isn't willing to give me a menu, then I leave and don't return. There are other restaurants.

I hate the whole concept of QR code for a menu. I have no idea who came up with the idea and why restaurants thought that is a good idea. Yes, physical menus cost a little money to print, but last forever. Unless the restaurant has a new menu every day, it just doesn’t make sense.

Maybe next time I’ll just walk out and let the restaurant know why I’m walking out.

It's likely that the server will be punished.

They want to be able to change prices.

They could just print out their own menus instead of having them professionally printed. Then they can cheaply change the menus any time they like.

I've seen a number of restaurants (including high-end ones) do this, and it's fine. Far superior to a QR code.
