they need cleaning when not used, so obviously need to wipe them after winter when hot temperatures are coming (some people claim if you reverse the air flow they can be used even in winter, can't agree with this opinion although it should work in theory), but if used frequently/regularly from spring until autumn it makes no sense to clean them, just wipe them before first seasonal use
