When you consider the commute to work as part of the work day itself, most people are nowhere near compensated for (A) the time and money spent to and from workplace, (B) their inherent risk exposure to non-work related damage / injury etc., it just becomes clear, in my opinion.

The long driveway folks have mitigated these risks to the point companies will pay cover the time cost, not to mention travel costs and meals, overnight stays, and add to that the willingness to pay for professional limousine service to take them to and from the airports.

I say all this as observations, not even trying to bring bias into this. Would I like to see some balancing of the scales? sure, but it probably needs to start with constructive discussion around the topic. I don't see it talked about nearly enough.
