I'd go easy on them, they're a student with what is almost certainly a very bizarre view of the world from that POV right now.

It doesn't sound very different from when I was in undergrad an eon ago, except substitute "AI" with "blatant and rampant cheating" and "openAI offer" with "google" or "facebook"
