The engineering part of software was already completely dead for a large portion of coders who didn't want to know anything about the domain, left all the decision-making to business people/product managers/designers and was downright allergic to doing anything that was more complicated than a CRUD in their favorite framework (which would invariably either change daily or remain static for their entirely career).
There was a huge influx of people like that in the last 10 years who got into it for the money, and frankly the industry got much worse and much more hostile to different perspectives and different experiences.
People who have not evolved into builders have visibly become meat interfaces to the LLM.
