America is not the USA. There' North America, Central America, South America.
This "america.gov" makes me feel weird.
Maybe we should have "america.ca" here as well.

In English there isn't a singular place called "America". As you mention, there's North/South/Cebtral, and together they're referred to as "the Americas". When someone refers simply "America" with no other qualifier, it's clear what they mean.
(Of course in Spanish "America" refers to the whole thing because North and South America aren't considered separate continents. But they have a different demonym for the US in Spanish)
If the name wasn’t a big deal they wouldn’t have named it “America.” It’s also hard to give any benefit of the doubt when this admin is so aggressive about changing the names of everything possible to include “Trump” and “America.” It’s clearly a deliberate tactic.
But referring to the US simply as "America" domestically isn't - politicians across the political spectrum do that. If a democratic administration had launched a chatbot, I would be unsurprised to see it called America.gov
But yeah, France isn't going to set up europe.gov.fr, and neither should the USA in my opinion, as someone from another continent who has no say in the matter
You might be interested to know that アメリカ (the romanization of America) is also how the country is referred to in Japanese. There are many other languages that followed English's use of America as the common name for the United States of America.
A notable exception, and where much of the disagreement comes from is Spanish. I generally try to follow the convention of the language I'm speaking and would never try to push the English-language conventions onto Spanish or vice versa.
For a while now I've been promoting "Usania" and "Usanians" - seems fitting...
Just like "Usanians" like to appropriate the name the rest of the world should to the same and start using "Usania" which is way more adequate…
Right...and none of those are America, there's part of the Americas.
When speaking English, "America" is the USA. If you mean the continental land mass of North/South/Central America, that's "The Americas".
To argue otherwise is just culture war bullshit. "Well, in Spanish-" fuck off. We're not speaking Spanish, we're speaking English, and in English, it's clear.
That is why every CC country part of the Americas should start a government web site named america.CC and be done with it.
And american means someonr from usa.
You just made a talking point out of your arse isntead of branching convo based on my comment.
You are not even thinking or reading, just putting your ideas out there.
