Plenty of people in Seattle just run the charging cable from the house across the sidewalk with one of those little ramps over it. And we've got a whole bunch of chargers on electricity poles, they are starting to proliferate around neighborhoods.
That only works if you park your car on the same side of the street as your house: that is not true in my case. That charging cable would be running across the road itself.
Our utility poles are also on people's property, so the charging cable would lay across the sidewalk.
