The Nazis are not infamous for the demolition of houses. What they did in Warsaw was kill 90% of the Jewish population. No one cares about the buildings (many of which were actually demolished by the Soviets after the war, to make place for apartment buildings).
I know there’s an attempt by some to simultaneously downplay what the Nazis did while exaggerating the evils of Israel, but no - Rafah is not “just like the Nazis”.
A closer comparison would be the Egyptian demolition of Rafah on its side of the border in 2013. Both were done after the population had been evacuated, and to create a buffer zone along the border.
Houses are often demolished by force, to build freeways or for housing projects. It’s not a nice thing to do, but it’s not “like the Nazis”.
Not true at all. Buildings are where culture happens. Systematically destroying them is a mechanism of genocide because it erases the memory in addition to the people. And yes this was a deliberate process by the Nazis [1].
> It’s not “like the Nazis”.
Actually, if the Nazis did something and then somebody else did it too, it's exactly like the Nazis.
You can't be serious. This is not a demolition of houses, this is the demolition of an entire city. Not for a housing project, but to erase the traces of the life human beings had there, all their collective and personal history. This- despite being far from the levels of human life destruction perpetrated by the Nazis- is genocidal in intent. When you roam around a city emptied by the war and coldly, methodically try to make it vanish from the face of the earth as if it never existed, house by house, you are not far in spirit from what the Nazis did to Warsaw.
Rafah has been demolished to create a buffer zone near the border (after the population had been evacuated). Egypt likewise has demolished Rafah on its side of the border in 2013 to create a security zone.
Just translating what accepting that "demolished to create a buffer zone" is a reasonable justification for levelling Rafah (and a lot of the rest of Gaza) means. Those peoples lives, homes and businesses are expected to just be subject to the whims and desires of the Israeli government all while they allow(ed) the blockage of aid going into the territory and fired on the camps they drove people into.
