I've seen (at least in prior decades) a similar phenomenon where certain more laissez-faire US folks talked up Hong Kong's reputation for business-friendly taxation. Yet the other necessary parts of the system were glossed over, like the massive sovereign-wealth fund, or how half of all housing was government-run or subsidized.
