Given that the Prius made it's first appearance in 1997.

I disagree. Toyota is one of the only companies that didn't plunge into EVs and get completely destroyed. Instead, they've stayed on the hybrid train, which has turned out to be a highlight for ICE cars.

Too early to say. they seem to be getting their rest if world market eaten by BYD etc. but it will take some years to play out

Right now it looks to me like companies that didn't plunge into EVs are part-way through the destruction stage. I mostly hear negativity about the state of most of the traditional car companies.

I'm not in the US though, so I can see the uptake of EVs in, essentially, a free market.
