I understand what you're saying, but you may be in the (annoying) position that to back up your argument you'll really have to enumerate all those interactions and show the pattern. Drawing one anecdote without the context is less convincing than: "trust me, I experience sexism in the workplace."

Yeah, derailing for dummies is a guide to tactics that people on forums use to ensure no questions are asked, skeptics are silenced and shamed, reasonable questions are avoided, and the speech is carefully policed.

In this case, no one is allowed to question rachel's account because the user name rachelbythebay contains a name commonly associated with being female. It's likely if the username was "robertonthebus" we would be able to question robert's assertions.

But this being Hacker News, I am hopeful we can get past your attempt to speech police and get back to a constructive dialogue.

I'm suprised this doesn't get said more often, I've seen dfd (and gfw) linked many times, on many forums, but rarely are these sources critisised.
