i think that's kind of what rclone is https://github.com/rclone/rclone

haven't used it yet. i either back up my data with restic or sync it to other devices with syncthing, but those are tiny files (keepassxc dbs)

Rclone doesn't support MacOS extended file attributes. Or it didn't in the past anyway.

No need for git, syncthing does exactly that (listening to file activity events in selected folders and syncing the change, with twoway sync if so desired) and its free!

I don't think that will play well with binary files. Even as small as a PDF of a few pages?
