I opened the link from the mobile, and when I pressed PLAY NOW, some scam links opened and initiated Apple Pay payment on my phone. I'm pretty sure this is not what you intended but still it does what it does.

My ublock origin blocked ~20 elements on page load so I'm pretty sure that's intentional.

There is a full screen interstitial ad that appeared right after clicking play now so if you double pressed or lingered a bit or maybe some sort of bug triggered the click then it happened through clicking on that ad

Yeah, it side tracked from what is otherwise a surprisingly functional game.

What the kids call "DOS games" nowadays... Half of the games on this list are for Windows 95 or later.

The site should call them PC games.

Okay Boomer...

At one point during it's usage, words just stop accurately describing what it is, and starts communicating a vibe or something instead. Just like "DOS Games", "MIDI" which is just data in reality, but people started associating it with chiptune, so somehow some people now mix the terms and call chiptune "Midi Music", yet chiptune have nothing to do with MIDI the protocol/.mid the fileformat.

but... then people can't constantly pretend they're smarter by telling others I.e. "the kids" what the original meanings are :(

In technical contexts it's often still important to use words accurately so in that sense it might not lose it's original meaning completely. I've come to accept that everyday language can be messy and inaccurate and one can't always get it right especially if they're not familiar enough with the topic. You can still get the meaning across well-enough.

It's funny how frequently we point and shout at semantic drift when we see it, when it's such a natural part of how we use language https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_change

Apropos:

> Fun - [...] earlier "a cheat, trick" (c. 1700), from verb fun (1680s) "to cheat, hoax," - https://www.etymonline.com/word/funny

Interesting. I've had lots of fun with noclip cheats.

Ya, just like pointing and shouting at infectious diseases

People don't generally refer to these old Windows games as "DOS games", though.

This is pretty good! The only trouble I'm having is with walking and driving because the control for that is invisible.

Edit: it even resizes and rotates! Cool!

Here is to hoping that GTA 6 will at some point be ready for VR. If any employee is reading this, I would be first in line to play the VR version!

If not at console launch (which seems unlikely, unless it's a "And one more thing..." feature), it'd be there by the blood and sweat of modders after the PC launch.

For me the cars and people didn't load in gta3, just the shadow of the car is seen, but you can drive it.

It's Vice City, not GTA3.

here is 3 https://quenq.com/apps/gta-3-online/

Thanks, edited.

It feels lovely to use panzer and leavemealone in loop. :")

Could someone shed some light on what's the legality of publishing emulated abandonware? I remember not too long ago Half-Life 2's web port got posted, is that still online?

It's not legal. And in any case it's not abandonware, they're still actively selling these games (maybe not these exact versions, but I doubt a court would see that as a distinction with a difference).

Unless they've gotten a license to do it, it's a crystal clear copyright violation, generally done under the assumption/hope that an entity that has abandoned selling the game has also abandoned caring about enforcing its copyrights against such projects.

Crystal clear illegal. And AFAIK Rockstar can be litigious.

The HL2 web port got DMCA'd pretty fast and the group behind it hasn't tried to rehost it

I do feel like posting links to these on HN is a type of soft distribution.

Objectively illegal. I'm unsure why this was even posted here.

Probably because emulators is one of the subjects discussed on this site. Not sure how I feel about it linking to a public web artifact.

Thanks for the nostalgia hit!

Absolutely fucking amazing, thank you. This tapped into the memory of how I remembered playing GTA III in terms of visuals. Thank you so much, I love this game and the person who made this happen!!

Is it just me, or is every radio station broken except Wave 103?

Yup seems that way. The irony if they decided to remove them for copyright reasons...
