Offer HN: I will build your MVP

Hello HN,

I am in between jobs at the moment and feel like doing some freelance work. Hence, I am looking for people who want their MVP/side-project/whatever built.

About me: MSc. Computer Science, 2.5 years of development experience with 1 year at a startup I co-founded (I was lead developer in a team of 4). I'm a good communicator and have worked with several developers.

I am skilled in JavaScript, Node.js, ElasticSearch, Java, Play! Framework, Android, Social API's, AWS, MySQL, MongoDB, Ruby and Rails.

Worked with following API's in the past: - Facebook (single-sign on as well as Graph API) - Linkedin - Google Contacts, Google Maps, GMail (IMAP) - Twitter - Dropbox

Have deployed several web apps, using Nginx, Varnish and HAProxy.

If you're interested in more information, code examples, a Skype call or anything else: email is in my profile! Usual delivery time is 6-8 weeks. I only take one project at a time, so yours gets full attention. An example of my latest weekend project: http://www.startupdiaries.info/.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

EDIT: As per suggestion, here are my profiles online:

Pay rate is negotiable, but around 66 dollars/hour (50 euro/hour).

"Offer HN" has traditionally been meant for offers of generosity, not to solicit freelance work at market rates.

I was expecting it to be free as well, to pad a portfolio or similar. We have a freelancer thread every month do we not?

That is why I flagged it. It's high point value is also suspect. I mean, why would many people vote this up?

Excellent marketing :) I know a lot of people with a lot more experience than you willing to work for 50 euro/hour from Spain, but also from the Netherlands and Germany if they don't have to sit in an office. If someone hires you, it gives hope for others. I know high spec coders from Spain with > 5 year experience in companies, top iOS dev skills and a lot more working for not even half that freelance.

Edit: downvotes because... ? Anyway: I think $66/hour is not expensive per-se, but it can quickly become way too much; 8 weeks is almost $22k, is that interesting for a startup? How about fixed price like: http://iwbyp.chris-granger.com/?

Seriously? You can forward them to me. I am working from Belgium and am currently swamped with iOS projects, would love to get some experienced freelancers aboard. Email is in my profile.

Ok, sure, all good English speaking (and some Dutch); sending you mail.

Thanks!

Forward the iOS developer details to me also, we are hiring.

Thanks :) However, 8 weeks delivery time does not mean the cost will be $22k! I will have regular talks with my client on Skype and let them know the approximate working hours (which should be ranging from 50 to 200 hours, depending on the complexity of the product).

6-8 weeks delivery time just means, well... that I will deliver the product in 6-8 weeks. :)

I also work on a milestone basis and regularly show progress. This means that my clients will have a clear idea of what they're paying for. Not a bad deal and certainly not overpriced imho.

He Philip, to be clear, my comment sounds more negative than it is I think. I love your initiative and I hope you get a lot of takers. I also hope people realize that you pay for quality. I'm just trying to see lower risk for startups. And you are right about the price (it's quite low even), thing is that I see a lot of economic changes which might, in some cases, no warrant that price. So let's say I'm seeking discussion about freelance hour prices in the EU.

When I started out, my chamber of commerce told me literally that I should not ask below 90 guilders (when they still existed) which would now be about E65. But then I was just starting out; I can ask E150-200 and I would get that <= 2008. What is normal now for different years of experience?

Please forward me the CV's. I also have a a few iOS / Android and Webapplication projects. Thanks.

This is not marketing. It is advertising, straight up. There is a specific offer.

Can you mention your User Interface design skills and perhaps show some examples? I personally am interested in finding someone who can design and implement beautiful profile pages for companies and people. Please post examples, if you have. Anyone else reading this with those kinds of skills, please get in touch. Bonus for Business Intelligence-related skills (from the ETL part to the algorithms to the visual and tabular graphics, analytics, and alerts). Cheers.

Your BI/ETL/algoritms requirement is interesting. I'm a big data guy and I've been looking to do some freelance work in this area for some time now, but HN seems to be hiring Rails/iOS people predominantly.

Could you elaborate on your requirement?

I can create basic user interfaces and have experience doing UX. However, I am by no means a user interface designer who can craft beautiful pages, sorry :) good luck!

You might also want to roughly indiciate what pay rate you'll be asking.

Done.

I know this is not the right place, but I've to mention 2 things: I visited the site: http://www.startupdiaries.info/ 1) I could not find any way to contact you. 2) When I register on the site, I got the activation mail, which had the URL starting with: "http://localhost:3000

Thanks for that. Fixed the incorrect link in the activation mail :)

Is anyone else confused?

Good luck Philip. Might I suggest adding your github acct. and other online sites with more information. A google search for your email address in your HN profile wasn't difficult, but you need to simplify the barriers to entry.

Thanks! Done. :)
