What logical rule would you propose that allows Pluto to be a planet without also bringing in a bunch of others?

I don't have a dog in this fight, but the real rule appears to be "that's the way I learned it in school".

That sure does seem to be the only argument on the "keep Pluto around but nothing else" side, "I learned it this way and I'm done learning"
