Have you ever been to Iceland lol? I have. Their isolation actually encourages wealth concentration and they have "big" chains everywhere.
Big chains are everywhere, including Iceland.
My point is that they have their own big chains, and a low number of small independent businesses because their situation benefits big chains and not small businesses.
