Posts like these are why I am so incredibly glad that HN isn't the only place where the blog post is being discussed.
This place already was lousy with empathy-challenged people, but these days, man, they’ll gladly kick a person down on their luck.
I also see kindness and concern on here, we get what we give! It's a thing to glom onto drama, and in this attention economy it's easy to fall down a dopamine spiral, even on a algo-lite platform such as this. Hello my name is sellmesoap and I'm a hacker-news-aholic!
There's a bit of space between batshit asylum crazy and "mental health break that was induced due to a death in the family".
Maybe not a thing in the USofA, elsewhere a number of G20 countries have compassionate leave and such things baked into workers rights.
Family court type things as well. I notice friends I have who are highly effective in big orgs can take care of themselves with mental health days on the regular. I've too often found myself in a role where the company 'needed' me to keep my holiday leave short because the bus factor was too low, such a drag!
I can assure you it is not. Are you a licensed professional in the mental health space to be saying something like this?
Yes.
Somehow I doubt the words of an account with negative karma.
