QnA with Larry Ellison at Oracle's FAM 2024 [the "best behaviour" speech] [video]

The Onion just published "The Onion’s Exclusive Interview With Larry Ellison" ( https://theonion.com/the-onions-exclusive-interview-with-lar... ): it is interesting that satire is bound to increasingly target names once reserved to the CS field. The partnership between state and enterprise may resemble that during a war.

The following are the transcripts, almost unabridged, of the "best behaviour" reply during that QnA in 2024. It appears that Larry Ellison proved excitement in front of the new opportunities and the "good" that can come out of them - completely oblivious of the inherent problems.

> We completely redesigned body cameras [...] Our body cameras are simply two lenses attached to your vest, attached to the smartphone that you're wearing. And we actually take the video that the police officer ... and the camera's always on ... You have going into the bathroom: "Oracle, um I need 2 minutes to take a bathroom break"... The truth is, we don't really turn it off: what we do is, we record it so no one can see it - no one can get into that recording without a court order. So, you get the privacy you requested. But... a judge can order, "I want to look at that, this so-called bathroom break" if something comes up. "Oracle, I need an hour for privacy with lunch with my friends": God bless, we won't listen in - unless there's a court order.

> We transmit the video back to headquarters; so, headquarters and AI is constantly monitoring the video. Remember this terrible case in Memphis where the five police officers basically beat to death another another citizen... Well, that can't happen because it would be on TV at headquarters - everyone would see it. Your body cams would be transmitting that. The police will be on their best behavior because we record we're constantly watching and recording everything that's going on. Citizens will be on their best behavior because we're constantly recording and reporting everything that's going on. It's unimpeachable. The cars have cam cameras on them. We can use AI and we're using AI to monitor the video. So, that altercation that occurred in Memphis: the chief of police would be immediately notified. It's not people that are looking at those cameras: it's AI that's looking at the camera - "You can't do this". Immediately an alarm is going to go off. Every police officer is going to be supervised at all times. Same thing: we have drones. [...] That's all done autonomously with AI. All these are AI applications. [...] AI is going to enable so much innovation in so many different areas that the the world is going to be a better place as we exploit these opportunities and take advantage of this great technology.

And a strong point remains: getting to the root of problems seems outside the focus, while exploiting possibilities is. A recipe of repression is used for cases that display the greatest lacking in civic and human development. Education remains the chief, core, radical issue.
