I can remember liking girls from the time I was 5. As with neurotypical pre-pubescent boys I had no sexual interest; holding hands was the only physical contact I desired. Around 11-12, some other boys talking differently about girls, noticing the ones with breasts and other body changes associated with sexual attractiveness.
Just to be clear: are you suggesting that the only reason someone would want a companion is to satisfy lust?
What other reason would there be to have a girlfriend or boyfriend? Financial exploitation?

Love? Emotional connection? Care, empathy, social connection, support, like-mindedness…
Lust and control are perhaps the two worst reasons to have a relationship.
Those sound like the excuses people typically make for lust, yes.
