The vast majority of voters don’t ever understand why they’re being screwed by economic policies, they just know when they are.

It’s much worse than that. People just feel like they’re getting screwed whether they are or not.

This might stem from the simple fact that the average American is constantly getting screwed. It's just a sliding scale of how badly.

Both parties are against them, owned by oligarchs and mega donors that are actively trying to increase the wealth gap and make average Americans fight each other over the petty dilemma of the week, rather than the real fight of the whole country vs maybe a couple thousand ultra rich douchebags.

When is the last time the American government didn't screw at least 70% of its voters?

And they’re too dumb to remember who caused the problems and just blame the other team no matter what.

This is difficult even for experts paying attention because economics is cyclical and policies can take time to show their effects

That's a part of the whole issue, isn't it? People have been trained to disregard (and disrespect) nuanced factual information un favor of political platitudes.

Many of the findings of mkultra and adjacent clandestine programs of the 20th century are about precisely how to steer the mindsets of large groups of people with psychological trauma.

I don't think anyone here was ever trained on nuance, so how are they going to separate that from political platitudes???
