Why not just eat food?
[1] as opposed to live to eat
Why not just do [less convenient thing] instead of [more convenient thing]? Well, convenience, of course.
> "I've never really understood"
You only need to understand that different people can have different priorities and desires.
> "the obsession ... glop ... stuck on ... why not just"
All you're doing here is using negative framing to pretend that your own priorities are more real than someone else's.
Evolutionarily, food is our absolute number one priority. It's hardcoded into the thought processes of every animal.
Can you describe anything that is more important than food?

Why are you wasting time with it?
You don't like it.

You don't like it.

None of your complaints make it not food. They just mean you don't know how to differentiate between your personal subjective preferences and correctness and it makes you sound snooty.
That is a bit of a reach! Anyone who doesn't like your weird sci-fi food on principle possibly has an eating disorder?
I've never really understood the obsession with one particular kind of food being "the true food".
> Why not just eat food?
Wait, what? Huel is food, by definition.
> "intensely sugary"
Sugary foods exist.
> "pea soup"
Pea soup also exists.
And if someone wants to put sugar into their pea soup, that can also exist. You complain about obsessions, but it seems like you may have an obsession about what other people should want.
