Ask HN: What physical publication do you still buy?

I remember as a kid loving to read National Geographic and Club Nintendo in Bolivia.

I want to subscribe to a PHYSICAL publication, to get news or entertainment it's fine. But something physical.

I want to slow it down and have it be my little morning ritual. Like my dad used to read the newspaper.

“Gift” from https://openpath.quest/2026/i-am-retiring-from-tech-to-live-... (atheist, but remain curious and want to support those who have left tech)

Publications received go into the book stack to read, Tsundoku style.

Until it went out of print, The Modern Farmer. It was directed to the homesteading lifestylist wishful thinkers. It was quarterly. The quality was astounding. Each magazine like a book of shorts with exquisite photography. Perhaps it will return. Signs of the time.

The economist. I like that it’s the right volume that can finish it in time for the next one.

And weekly is the right cadence for seeing the bigger picture for news too.

I subscribe to The Guardian Weekly [1]. I read it at the weekend.

I'm a long-time Guardian reader, but I'm trying to reduce my exposure to constantly-updating, anxiety-inducing news. I only recently subscribed but it seems to be having a positive effect.

The subscription also includes access to their food and drink app, which I enjoy, and an app that gives me a static, digital version of that day's newspaper.

I should add one more. Last year, I picked up a physical mail delivery of the financial times. 52x6 issues a year for $99. I had to poke around to find the offer. I felt lucky finding it. But the font is so small - I gave it up.

The New Atlantis, The New Criterion, The Hedgehog Review, and Garden & Gun. And then Stack magazine, and independent magazine subscription. They pick a different one from somewhere around the world and send it to you.

Lapham’s Quarterly (though the print version has been on hiatus — and we’re told it will eventually start back up as the publication finishes its resurrection). Looking forward to my print copy of the “Energy” issue.

It's absolutely not a 2nd Amendment apologist rag.

Buying boxes of NatGeo mags at estate/yard sales is not a bad answer. Lot's of folks want to get rid of them, and they are still in every way amazing.

I subscribe to Wired, American Chess, and Architectural Digest. I had a sub to Raspberry Pi Magazine, but now I just read the free PDF version.

Make Magazine.

I’d be interested in other good physical periodicals.

2600 Magazine

2600 magazine baby. (With cash, as always.)
