This is such a great time capsule movie. You can smell the cigarette smoke when you watch it. It also has the most perfect ending shot I've ever seen.

I also love the old switchboards and office furniture. It is indeed a time capsule.

Speaking of, the NYT got a pretty rare peek at said switchboards last year: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/04/20/nyregion/nyc-...

Kind of reminds me of this, too: https://www.nytimes.com/video/insider/100000004687429/farewe...

Watch it along with "The Conversation", from the same era. Watch "Breakdown: 1975" for the context..

One of the best action movies of that era, the 1970s. The actors are all first rate. Here's the IMDB link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072251/ for those interested.

I grew up on Walter Matthau movies. He was such an unlikely action hero, but I loved watching him.

"So uh, pretty good script huh?"

"The script sucks kid! I owe my bookie two million dollars!"

Walter Maththau to Kevin Pollok on the set of "Grumpy Old Men"

Hopscotch (1980) is another great Walter Matthau movie. He is just having fun the whole time.

Let's also hear it for David Shire's fantastic theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOXD_g0cSpw

"I figured it out. They're gonna fly the train to Cuba."

This is fairly timely since you'd probably be hard pressed to do the same thing with the new Spider-Man movie, which was apparently shot in Glasgow?

> The guy who's talking's got a heavy English accent. He could be a fruitcake

Always amuses me. Great film.
