I was thinking of posting this but then I thought.. gosh.. so much for the karma :)

let me help you there ;)

How embarassing that twitter can report on anyone's downtime.

Actually, it's the greatest testimony to the hard work the Twitter team has done into making the service more stable.

Another google product to replace gmail http://mail.google.com/mail/help/paper/more.html

IMAP is gone as well (Europe, The Netherlands)

I second that as confirmed; IMAP is working in India. Google Gears saves my inbox.

IMAP is working for me from India.

The web interface however is down.

Working for me in Scotland.

I'm still getting IMAP access, at least

so much for those 5 9s I guess...

That's the second glitch for google in a very short time.

Have you seen this article about the legal eloquence that Google has in their SLAs?

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/04/googles-apps-sla-allows...

No, I had not seen that. That's pretty ugly actually, when my own services are down for more than a minute I have a very bad knot in my stomach and I would not dare to point at my (non-existent) sla to say, see, I told you this was ok.

In the future, I think track record and transparency of SLA's will be the deciding factor when it comes to application services hosted by third parties.

I run a free service that earns me nothing at the moment, and it has crashed occasionally at 2 or 3AM and I dutifully got out of bed and fixed it. That stomach knot you speak of is one I know and dread.

the 'down' arrow is not to indicate disagreement or a lack of understanding of the subject matter.

Aaand we're back.

...will there be a life after Google?

(...and will it be eternal?)
