Yeah, it just happened to me as well.

And the worst part is that even if we give in to their demands and log in, we’d probably only get six more months of old.reddit at most. By being complacent now, we’re basically showing them that they can do whatever they want.

So after they shut down old.reddit, they might require login for new.reddit too, or maybe cripple the website so much that it’ll be impossible to use it without their app (like Facebook and Instagram).

I guess it’d be better to write a userscript that replaces their UI completely, and/or start getting used to not browsing Reddit.

I couldn't access new reddit yesterday without logging in.

Seems I can on one device today and not on the other. Seems they might be testing/starting that too.

By still being there at all, you've been complacent all along. Sometimes my principles sting but within a day or two of leaving, I didn't miss it at all.

Next is no browser at all, like x and instagram.

I don’t know where all the good posters are going to, maybe off social media entirely. We really need a reset after almost all the platforms became owned by the most sociopathic and out of touch people in society

Red Harvest I guess. Let's build our own, this time with.. oh, a lot of lemmy instances already do have an old. subdomain and interface!

New reddit also has blocking pop-ups after a while if you are not logged in since recently.

I've been there for a while. Honestly it's for the best.

Old Reddit requiring login feels like the beginning of the ‘please use our app’ boss battle.

I require login on new reddit too after 30 seconds of scrolling if is forcing me to login.

It's cookie/session based, try browsing in private/incognito mode.

Nope, their marketing department convinced them to roll it out slowly to avoid the streisand effect

Its reddits digg moment

This was my reddit. Lots of niches that I never really explored but saved for later. Some just fascinating to watch, eg entertainment.

Honestly, probably time to move off it regardless. Perhaps I visited the wrong subreddits but these days, whenever I show up, it's all largely AI slop. Or bot accounts, reposting things. Even on smaller or more niche subreddits too.

Just login then?

Still works fine.
