Perhaps we should not grant century+ long monopolies for out of print books, and even make copyright require a fee that the Library of Congress uses to add the material to a permanent digital archive available to the public. Then no one would need to hoard and destroy old books because the contents would already be easily available.

AI training is a distraction from the destruction of knowledge copyright already causes.

That's great, then maybe in a century and a half our great great grandchildren can finally access those books assuming IA is still around. But ideally we'd simply make our government work for us instead of against us, and we could demand some stipulations in exchange for granting limited monopolies.

How’s that going so far? How long until that materially changes? Years? Several half decade? The Internet Archive exist today, donations are tax deductible, and its digital storage system is globally distributed.

I’m more confident in the long-term operational resiliency of the Internet Archive globally than I am in the longevity of a functioning US government at this time. When in doubt, add more geographically distributed POPs and drives.

I think misanthropic really don't care about humanity.
