Casio Moflin

I suspect commenters so far have missed the fact that this isn't a fuzzy LLM-powered surveillance device. It actually doesn't require an Internet connection, it doesn't record or upload what you say to it, and it doesn't talk. It just senses your emotions and responds with cute noises. "AI" appears to just mean that it learns to recognize your voice and respond to you in unique ways. (To be fair, it's not obvious from the linked page.)

> They have no cameras, no Wi-Fi or cellular connection, and no direct internet access. While Moflin can connect to the app via Bluetooth, they cannot independently send or receive data without user interaction.

> Moflin does not listen to, or record conversations. Instead, they use speaker recognition to detect and distinguish voices based on non-identifiable audio patterns, without processing the actual content of what is said. All data is stored locally on the device and is only uploaded securely via the MofLife App if you choose to create a journal or support features like servicing or recovery.

I thought I was about to see a new watch or calculator model, definitely not that.

This is weird.

If you want the experience of a small animal, adopt a small animal. There are many right now living in non-optimal conditions in shelters near you that need permanent homes and they are actual living beings worth caring about, as opposed to this costly future e-waste.

AI Tribbles. What could go wrong?

ooooh Not creepy at all. Can't wait for AI to be implemented in my toilet so I can have a stool sample analyzed every time I go to the bathroom.
