Why move to a thread that is clearly a copy of my post, created 2 hours after mine?

Your post was created later - you can tell this from the item IDs. I think the other post was about 53 minutes earlier.

Most probably we re-upped the other thread after doing the merge and that caused the timestamp on it to get relativized in a way that is, admittedly, confusing. More on that here: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que....
