Xi pitches China as leader of new global AI order, challenging US dominance

Xi shows up at the Shanghai-based World Artificial Intelligence Conference and reaffirms China's commitment to open source AI; I guess they sense that they have a good thing going and is doubling down on that.

Hearing a world leader talk about open source is huge. I think it highlights pretty starkly the difference in approach between the U.S. and China and will likely in time be seen as a pretty historic statement.

"new historical injustices" is a banger.

Yeah. But I think in the developing world it is a common viewpoint: That tech monopolies and ip is continuation of western colonialism and exploitation.

Xi is not speaking for deaf ears here.

Sure, but we have the world we live in and Xi is just playing a role. The belt and road have been plenty colonialist, the african expeditions are equally exploitative.

The issue globally is consolidation of wealth and resources, we've got housing and wage crises from miami to switzerland.

Absolutely, you can say that. But in terms of tech, high quality open source ai is a real equalizer - and I applaud that.
