Pierce Hawthorne, is that you?!?

(Given that he audited classes for years, this very much strikes me as a class project based on his interests...)

I had to look up that reference:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Community_characters#P...

There's an episode called "Digital Estate Planning" where his dad mocks him for his lack of business acumen: "In 1980, you said that video games, not moist towelettes, were the business of the future. Today, moist towelettes are stocked in every supermarket, while arcade after arcade closes."

This reminds me something my the teacher of my university public speaking class told us (in the context of doing research): No matter how trivial, esoteric or obscure the topic, there is someone on earth who has devoted their entire career to studying it.

Autism never sleeps.

"If you think autistic people can't be funny you've probably never seen one being hyperfixated on committing to the bit, no matter the cost."

[oof, I also feel this in my approach to projects.]

Wow, almost unchanged from 2005[0]. Impressive. I miss the weird web.

EDIT: Here's an Atlas Obscura article about the museum itself[1].

> Watch out, these are big files (for 1990's technology). About 1.6 megs each.

I find myself holding onto and preserving general ephemera and just happened to scan a moist towelette package over the weekend. My collection mostly consists of business cards and dry cleaning type carbon copy receipts. I need to better catalogue these and share online. A few business cards: https://ivan.sh/biz-cards/

Reminds me of this lovely book of Spanish restaurant serviettes: https://antennebooks.com/en-eu/products/servilletas-spanish-...

And another of beer coasters from the bars around Barcelona: https://antennebooks.com/en-eu/products/posavasos

I heard Collectors Universe/ PSA will launch "Moist Towlette Grading" in the next quarter.

Misunderstood that as "moist towel museum" first and was worried for a moment.

Re: the moist towelettes, I love that the person who runs this website hasn't seen any need to change the HTML design since probably 1997.

No Wash & Dry samples?

Look harder.

Ah, now it makes sense why my AI prompt last week for "Create a Spock moist towlette image" was so realistic.
