I’d be all for permanent Standard Time but there’s no way that’ll happen with the old people in charge of our government. Most of them probably wake up at 4am already.

I don't really care how time is reckoned so long as there is some
agreement about it, but I object to being told that I am saving
daylight when my reason tells me that I am doing nothing of the kind.
I even object to the implication that I am wasting something
valuable if I stay in bed after the sun has risen. As an admirer
of moonlight I resent the bossy insistence of those who want to
reduce my time for enjoying it. At the back of the Daylight Saving
scheme I detect the bony, blue-fingered hand of Puritanism, eager
to push people into bed earlier, and get them up earlier, to make
them healthy, wealthy and wise in spite of themselves.

* https://github.com/eggert/tz/blob/main/northamerica#L75I wonder why we can't just push school back later in the winter? I guess that'd be a little disruptive to society (all the parents have to change their schedules depending on how it's implemented), but things are already disruptive with the time change, and summer vacation schedules, and so on.
Just spitballing, I'd prefer permanent Standard Time myself too.
As a lifelong night owl, I can say you have it backwards.
The time used in the summer is ideal, as the sun sets later. I despise the winter time when it is dark at 4pm. It might be light early at dawn but as a night owl I'm asleep then so it is a waste.
