People love hate on Time Warner and Comcast (I do too), but I have used both of their services and they do offer more mbps than other providers.

At my old apartment I had 50mbps Time Warner (Rochester, NY). At my new apartment I, I have 105mbps Comcast (Charleston, SC).

Whether they'll ever offer 1gbps, I don't know, but 105mbps isn't exactly the 5mbps average that the rest of the country has either.
