>console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027

As a millennial I love that every year has a "once in a lifetime" event

Sometimes I wonder if this is what the fall of a civilization looks like

Not with a bang but a whimper?

can't wait for the Xbox Mortgage Edition

Right? Life is so hard nowadays. Can't believe Xbox prices are going up. It's the end of the times. /s

Will we ever get a break for good times?

I like how “Update” has become corporate PR's favorite weasel word for headlines bearing bad news.

If it was reductions they'd tell you so in the title. If they aren't doing that it's because they're trying to avoid giving you the bad news for as long as possible.

> Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.

I have not seen such pessimistic future prediction from any of major consumer electronics producers yet.

Hate how nowhere on that page does it say what the price will be. I guess they don't want the full price in the announcement...

Go add the announced price increase to whatever price you find on BestBuy.com? I take your point, but I hardly find it onerous to figure out the new price.

Console Old Price New Price

------------------------------------------------

Xbox Series S 512GB $399.99 $499.99

Xbox Series S 1TB $449.99 $599.99

Xbox Series X 1TB Digital $599.99 $749.99

Xbox Series X 1TB $649.99 $799.99

EDIT: damn how do you make tables on HN

You need to format it as code. (Blank line followed by code lines, indented by 2+ spaces)

  Console          Price -> Old       New
  ------------------------------------------------
  Xbox Series S 512GB $399.99 $499.99
  Xbox Series S 1TB $449.99 $599.99
  Xbox Series X 1TB Digital $599.99 $749.99
  Xbox Series X 1TB $649.99 $799.99

Woof. Microsoft pre-announced a bunch of layoffs in the gaming division next month. Also had a disastrous price increase in Xbox Live membership followed by a large number of cancelled subscriptions.

Clearly more expensive hardware will bolster the financials.

After Apple, Microsoft is now taking up the baton. Who is next?

Anyone who sells hardware with RAM

Sony and Nintendo, probably.

Both already did

So did Microsoft already! They can always do more.

That was the previous round, which Microsoft also did. There have been 3 or 4 such price increases this generation.
