Ask HN: Best way to store a large set of photos for iPhone Image Gallery App

I'm in the process of creating a Photo gallery app for the iphone which contains about 5,000 photos.

What is the best way to store/access the images through the app? Can I just host the images on my web server? Or is it better to go with a cloud service. Sorry, I'm new to app development, just trying to prevent headaches down the road.
