Windows sometimes may force users to upgrade and linux is a good choice but needs higher skills. Most people dont want to risk on switching to linux if he is already a windows user. Using Raspberry Pi is really a good alternative since it is much cheaper and a good place for you to experiment linux on it. It is also a good device to implement IOT related functions on it.
