What sad news.

I met FX many years ago during a Black Hat event. At the time, I was working on a class of vulnerabilities related to zip archives. Not only did he know exactly what I was on to, but he was able to articulate the actual issue and explain what was happening behind the scenes and why my exploit was working.

A true legend.

It's been a long time, but I've always cherished our late night conversations at the Alexis Park. Truly a great hacker. RIP my friend

I'm really sad, even if I never met him personally and only knew him from his talks, his software and of course his blog.

I had hoped that after his illness he would be granted some time for personal life and recovery — which makes this news all the more shocking.

FX != fefe

Thanks for the clarification

His excitement and deep interest in things from cisco to web security to life was inspiring.

Loved his CISCO talks. RIP.

One of my favorite DEF CON talks https://media.defcon.org/DEF%20CON%2017/DEF%20CON%2017%20vid...

World got a little darker today. Rip my friend.

Reminds me of the Pirates of the Caribbean quote: "The world used to be a bigger place." "The world's still the same. There's just... less in it."

Very sad news to hear. People of his caliber are sorely needed in the community. My condolences to everyone close to fefe.

Fefe is a different person

Came here to ask the same question / conclusion.

It was thin to find out the differences between the two.

Though, FeFe also suffered some health issues lately, IIRC?

Yeah, he had a stroke. Not many updates, unfortunately.

Aside from feeling sad that he had a stroke, I've been wondering how the infrastructure for his blog keeled over so fast.

The blog is fine, it just looks like he didn't foresee that there would be a month where wouldn't post anything, so the navigation links break down. If you go to the last month he posted in, everything works as usual: http://blog.fefe.de/?mon=202505

There was actually a one-time post in December as well http://blog.fefe.de/?mon=202512

Oh, just yesterday it failed to load at all!

I think the server works, but the ssl cert timed out.

Fefe doesn't capitalise the 2nd F in his name btw.

Yes, I mistyped, Freudian slip. And I can't edit or delete anymore. I'm terribly sorry.

While he was a dividing personality with strong opinions, he had his heart in the right place

RIP

Dividing? Are you sure you are not thinking of fefe, who has a somewhat similar real name?

A true hero and legend. RIP.

Sad news. I wonder if his projects (e.g. dietlibc) will continue development or not...

FX != fefe

The dietlibc author is a different person but with a very similar name.

fefe = Felix von Leitner

fx = Felix Lindner

Please don't mix up the names and nicknames.

Both are highly renowned security experts.

Oh oops, my apologies :(

Sad news.

fuck

I never really knew felix, but mob says he was a pretty cool guy, and we miss him already.

Thank you felix for everything you did for mob :)

He was a good hacker but also a HUGE, arrogant jerk who treated a lot of people quite badly.

What do you mean by this?

Are you sure it was him? And not an external, perhaps undocumented and extremely illegal, system affecting his actions and behaviour?
