Damn I didn't know this. I have been joking that Denmark should rename Greenland to Poland, cause wouldn't it be funny if ww3 started with the US invading Poland?

Apparently my somewhat forced attempt to liken Donald to Adolf has been outdone by reality.

Why would other countries go to war?

Collective defense aka casus foederis as defined by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Even an attack by one of its own members that's its leading military and financial force?

Absolutely. Yes.

The NATO Pact, established in 1949, is a collective defense agreement where an attack on one member is considered an attack on all.

Even an attack by one of its own members that's its leading military and financial force?

Yes, in fact that would be the most important time to follow through with that agreement from the position of the other members.

Yes

Sure, any wannabe-but-not-entirely-educated World Leader would love to own Greenland.

And why not? It's strategically located, rich in natural resources, and...

Until, well, you actually visit the place and realize that 95% of its surface area is pretty much inhabitable and its population centers are pretty much indefensible, on account of being, well, fishing villages.

Aaand it’s flagged.

That Hitler guy is starting to sound a lot like Trump, I think I might have to tear down my posters of him.

Hitler posters? Jokes aside, Trump looks a lot less competent.

Keep in mind that Germany had a real lack of resources to deal with.

One entirely caused by Hitler, of course, but a real one.

I am not sure I would call Hitler competent. I could call him ruthless and a gambler. That can take you a long way. Until it doesn't.

You joke, but the more I learn about Mussolini, the more I see horrid parallels with Trump.

I thought Trump was a Maoist?

I despise how the Atlantic is comfortable rewriting history to make it fit with modern narrative. Hitler wanted Stalingrad, North Africa, and the UK. Cherry picking stuff for clicks is sloppy at best and an instant hit to their integrity. Greenland was never a major goal.
