Ask HN: Tools to code using voice?

8 points·emerongi··7 comments

I need to minimise screen usage. What are the best tools currently available to code using voice? I'm hoping to do most of the coding using LLMs, and then do a review+touchup stage at the end.

What's the best tooling for using voice+LLMs (e.g. Claude Code)? Best tools to do regular coding?

There's quite a few AFK solutions that are out there.

The OpenClaw form factor of using a chatbot to orchestrate sessions seems to be working for folks, based on what they're saying atleast.

Simon Willison talks about using Claude Code for Web, which shows up on the phone app to code on the go from his phone. He's got some useful notes on his blog: https://simonwillison.net/2025/Oct/20/claude-code-for-web/

My 2 cents: Try the OOTB options to get a feel for the ergonomics that suit you best, then vibe code something that works for you.

The only ones I know of require you to be in front of your computer still. When yo say "minimize screen time," I assume you're not wanting to be in front of the computer.

Might sound trite, but why not vibe code something to help you here?

Flow might be what you are looking for https://wisprflow.ai

Or build your own whisper powered tool to do speech to text into a claude code prompt. All you do is talk and then hit enter.

must mention https://handy.computer/

cursorless (https://www.cursorless.org/) is basically spoken vim

it isn't for LLMs at all really but if you want to do code editing via voice it seems like it'd be really good for that.
