Isn't twitter discouraging client implementations? Is there a risk of TweetBot having their API key revoked ?

Not exactly. They have a limited number of tokens, read more about that on their blog post http://tapbots.com/blog/news/tweetbot-mac

At least until Twitter changes their API TOS again.
