The oil was sanctioned under the Venezuela Defense of Human Rights and Civil Society Act of 2014.

And then

President Obama today issued a new Executive Order (E.O.) declaring a national emergency with respect to the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States posed by the situation in Venezuela. The targeted sanctions in the E.O. implement the Venezuela Defense of Human Rights and Civil Society Act of 2014, which the President signed on December 18, 2014, and also go beyond the requirements of this legislation. https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2015/0...

What's your point?

I think the point is that if the president of USA issued a few executive orders or have laws passed, he can legally take whatever he wants.

Not that I agree with that. It just seems to be the reality.

"Trump Steals" different to "United States government executes its ten-year-old policy"

Ok ok I shouldn't have used "steals". My emotions got the better of me. Venezuela kept some oil the U.S. bought. But the charges of Narco-terrorism against Maduro are ridiculous.

I understand. Appealing to the liberal hive mind for upvotes is tempting.

While mild support in the other direction is a quick route to the shadow realm.
