There is no silver lining to Female Genital Mutilation

1. Interesting she assumes this comes from a progressive space. Religious and parental freedom are often right-wing coded.

2. I’d be fine with banning all medically unnecessary surgery for minors. If boys want to be circumsized, they can make that choice when they turn 18. But…

3. This is a medical journal. One thing I really hate is ethicists who are willing to turn a blind eye to realities on the ground in favor of moral certainty. I don’t want victims of FGM dying because people are afraid to take them to a hospital when something goes wrong.
