Limitless Acquired by Meta. Rewind Mac app shutting down

Wow, their compression algorithm sounds interesting.

> When the Rewind app came out in 2022, it made quite a splash, thanks to the company’s “mind-boggling compression” system, which could transform more than 10GB of recorded data into a file smaller than 3MB.

It’s giving me middle-out vibes.

They didn't have their own compression algorithm; they used ffmpeg to compress screen recordings to MP4 files at 0.5 FPS. https://kevinchen.co/blog/rewind-ai-app-teardown/

I used it and it was good. The thing about the compression for me was that because it wasn't for broadcast or sharing it didn't have to be as rigorous or detailed. Plus, it's a desktop. Stuff doesn't change as often as often as in a movie.
