I understand its meant for simplicity, but guys aren't we in AI era now? I also know people have made lot of extensions and add ons to make it look modern, but what's stopping the admin to vibe code an elegant UI?

And look at the buttons, omg.

Cheers.

Because it's the way people want it. The design is reasonably close to perfect for its use case. Information dense, little chrome, nothing fancy. This is the reason the UI hasn't changed. It's not because the admins don't know how to change it.

There are other UIs

Like this site https://hcker.news/

And this Android app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simon.harm...

KISS. Keep It Simple Silly!

No large jpg images to load. Works on most platforms.

I would not mind a few more search options and an ability to flag items for later reading or to mute individuals. But, overall, it is fine.

> an ability to flag items for later reading

You can pander to aspirational intended later reading fantasy by using [favorite] for posts and same for individual comments (if you select on the comment time stamp).

You can unfavorite after reading or just grow a longer and longer list of get around to that later.

> or to mute individuals

Reasonably easy with custom filters on <favorite> afblocker extension.

Thank you.

As long as it is not slow loading, prefer fast, no useless meaningless pictures like on lots media news sites. works different browsers and platforms OK , I like it

Because design ought to converge on some perfection, not change for change’s sake.

Simple and information-dense. No need to change it.

It works fine and your post is rage bait.

It's not just the UI, this site is information poverty, trapped in some hackneyed idea of "news" that likely represents the tired and incestuous interests of the VC class... There are no ideas here and certainly nothing close to progress here. Which morbid climes suit me fine.

leave then

AI era vibe coded elegant UI gives me fatigue already

I like it like that, its not too flashy

This page is 5.0kb and only has 6 other assets. those assets, after being cached, means you get a page load in less than 1 second. Every. Single. Time. This page would load well on a dial-up connection from the 90's.
