Can the Golden Age of Costco Last?

I’ve been a member for over 20 years, and it’s just not the same as it used to be. Many items are now more expensive than at other stores, and some of the Kirkland food products have really declined in quality. The produce, in particular, is overpriced and often not fresh — sometimes even half-spoiled.

There’s also less selection and fewer interesting items overall. Something changed after COVID, and it feels like they’ve never fully recovered. They’ll carry an item for years and then suddenly discontinue it with no comparable replacement. Meanwhile, other retailers now match or beat Costco’s prices on many food items.

There are still a few good deals, but I’m not sure it’s worth the membership anymore.

I canceled my Costco membership recently due to high prices and worse products.
