Separation from the internet is a good thing. It mitigates the kids’ exposure to just what their friends see and talk about . And then the kids have less to learn and deal with a smaller information window.
As a kid of minority background, the entire world had a big filter where I separated myself from them. There were a lot of missed connections, sure, but it also gave me a protection. I didn’t do drugs. I didn’t smoke. I didn’t drink. I didn’t curse. I didn’t fight with my parents. I didn’t go to music concerts.
Then college came. And now I was exploring. Sometimes it was unnerving. Sometimes I got by. Sometimes I was just smarter.
