Fastmail also have a decent API if you're keen to glue together a better client yourself.

Exactly! They support imap so I can use any of the zillion native, much better performing, consistent UI, email clients out there.

What does their webpage wrapped in a fairly poor, memory hungry browser get me over just going to their website in my browser?

The alternative is a performant native app, what’s there to understand?
