News announcing the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel: several stories here with plenty of discussion.

An update reversing the suspension: flagged (as of 16:10 PST).

I'm a bit dumbfounded this time at what the community is thinking. Why did they flag such a drastic update to a story here?

You shouldn't be surprised.

Anything that goes against the right is downvoted and flagged to a much higher degree than it normally would.

Probably not. But it was never this brazen. There is legitmately no "HN doesn't want to incite flame wars" rhetoric to be had here this time, unless "talk show hosts shouldn't be censored by the government" is now a hot take.

Disney may return the show but affiliates licensing the content may not do so. Nexstar and others may keep the show off on their stations or in some locations. But we also don’t know what was agreed to between Kimmel and ABC.

I’m suspicious of the term “thoughtful conversations”. They didn’t state what changes, if any, he was required to make to get the show back. Is he back on the air but completely muzzled?

Good point. It wouldn't surprise me if he has been told to back off with the Republican bashing jokes.

That said, if he has been told that then he has probably agreed to do so to get back on air.

Not sure what's worse, being told to bend the knee or agreeing to bend the knee.

The "thoughtful conversations" was losing a projected 4 billion dollars as their stock tanked this week by 2%. The supposed cancelations of Disney+ didn't help either, but we'll probably never know the true impact there.

But yes, we don't know what strings are attached. I'd still stay skeptical since this may just be an appeasement on the surface.

> We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.

In other words, stuck between reprisal from angry customers and an angry monarch, they can make both parties relatively happy by slapping a hand and giving a stern lecture.

In the big picture, the message stands: in a fascist state, the media is controlled by the government.

Outstanding news!

So i don't understand why the backlash was against ABC and not the FCC or the affiliates.

There was plenty against the FCC as well, but ABC made the decision to cave.

I can dislike ABC, Nexstar, and the FCC simultaneously personally.

Easy go. Easy come
